The Aesir Wars
"PREPARE TO DIE, FOOLS, AS THE POWER OF THE AESIR IS BEYOND THE ONE OF MERE MORTALS!"

-Odin, King of the Aesir fighting Emperor Trasymacus
The Aesir Wars (or Aesir War) is a large scale conflict opposing the forces of the Order of the Smoke Jaguar and the Aesir armies in the Pentus sector. The conflict had long-lasting impacts on many of the OSJ nations involved.
Preamble:
The escape of the Belgioswedes into the current universe had large consequences on the magical subspecie of homo sapiens. As contacts between the Kingdom of Belgiosweden and other polities located within the Pentus sector multiplied, the once highly religious and rural society of the Belgioswedes started modernising. This modernisation drew the hire of the Aesir, the former masters of the Belgioswede. |

In order to prevent a return of their former thralls, the Aesir launched a preemptive, large scale attack in the known universe, alongside their other thrall races, aiming to cripple the Belgioswedes and force them back under their dominion, or perhaps even far sinister motives.
First Phase: The Battle for Midgard
The assault took Belgiosweden entirely by surprise, the Aesir personally taking care of the system of Midgard, capital of the Belgioswedes and the most populated area of their kingdom while their thralls rapidly subjugated the other systems of the Fiskplat Cluster. It was then that the Opal Table was summoned, King Robert calling the other members of the OSJ to help in the fight against the invaders.
The response of the OSJ was swift, but divided. While the Houseidians and Olimpiadans formed the Combined Fleet to coordinate their meager presence in the region, the Pikasistani refused to join the multinational effort, keeping their military on its own as they rushed to the Belgioswedes help.
As the two armadas reached the system, the Belgioswede navy was reduced to husks of metal and the giant magical shields protecting the cities of the world of Midgard were visible from space as they sustained heavy fire from the invaders. The Combined Fleet, under Houseidian command launched massive planetside operations with the goal of evacuating as many Belgioswedes as possible, under the cover of their naval might, while the Pikasistani fleet rushed head on against the main battlegroup of the Aesir.
While the evacuation efforts were a relative success, the main space battle was but a pyrrhic victory, the Pikasistani battlegroup being severely battered by the assault, Emperor Trasymacus dying soon after an ill-fated assault on the Güngir, flagship of Odin. In reality, the forces sent to relieve Midgard from the invasion of the Aesian forces where on the verge of collapsing under the supperior power of the invaders' fleets.
However, the efforts of the OSJ fleets bought enough time for King Robert to warp the planet out of reality, leaving the fate of both himself and the remainders of the Belgioswede forces on the planet unknown. Both fleets jumped out of system and it is guessed that the Aesir also left reality in order to chase Midgard itself, not wanting the Belgioswedes to escape their grasp.
Second Phase: The Phony War
The second phase of the war was particularly quiet as most of the remnants of the Pikasistani fleets and the Combined Fleet assembled in the system of Daphne, where a ramshackle station made of modules of varied origins was built, nicknamed The Hive by the forces stationed there. From this station, strike groups were formed, rearmed and sent to stall the invaders while damaged ships were towed away in shipyard systems for repairs.
It is estimated at this point that the Classis Celestiae, was down 40-45% of its pre-war tonage, while the Combined Fleet had lost a more modest percentage of ships. The Hive was also a place of high tensions, notably between Pikasistani and Houseidians who would cordon parts of the station and prevent each other from accessing them as tensions were still at their highest at the time. Yet, the Olimpiadans managed to ease tensions after a while, serving as intermediaries, but also policemen at times.
It was also during this time that the funerals of Emperor Trasymacus were held and that his daughter, Laelys, acceeded to the Throne after besting the other pretenders to the Throne during the Conclave of Blood. The accession of Empress Laelys to the Throne was originally marked by a period of respite during the hostilities, allowing the defending forces to replenish as reinforcements from the Delta and Gamma Quadrants arrived while the Pikasistani shipyards cumulated emergency shifts one after the other to replenish the arsenals.
Third Phase: The Battle for The Hive
It was then that the Mariel-Ragnar Combined Entity decided to react to the harassment of their new conquests, sending their fleets to destroy The Hive, sole foothold of the OSJ in the region at this point. The battle was bloody as the poorly coordinated defenders sought to reorganised themselves. As the defenders were considering retreat, the Pikasistani reinforcements finally arrived, with Empress Laelys herself commanding the PCCN Octavia, the first super-dreadnaught built by the Pikasistani, alongside veterans of the Race for Beacon.
The morale boost, alongside the extra firepower available to the defenders stopped the assault of The Hive in its track and the MRCE, losing their numbers advantage, withdrew. With the conclusion of the Battle of The Hive in the defenders outcome, the OSJ had regained the initiative, it was now time to strike back at the invaders and free Fiskplat.
Operation Queenfall: Operation Queenfall was an MRCE covert operation deep within the Koan Cluster aiming to destroy what remained of the Belgioswede Royal Family. Despite their detection by the Houseidian and resistance of both the Belgioswede Royal Guard and the Houseidian forces assigned to their security, the Queen and the royal children were all assassinated, essentially beheading the Kingdom in exile. |
However the OSJ forces had a dilemma: either they striked decively and risk losing what little of the Belgioswede knowledge remained or they could advance methodically, securing valuable knowledge before finally sending large scale assaults. After much debates at the Opal Table, it was decided that the second path would be taken and Olimpiadan EOS teams, alongside their Houseidian counterparts started launching covert operations deep in hostile territory to recover as much data as possible while the Pikasistani Fleet and Combined Fleet taunted the MRCE. After a few months, what could be saved had been recovered and the reconquest of Fiskplat was finally initiated. By now, the balance of power was still fairly equal, but analysis of battle data showed weaknesses in the MRCE's battle order which could be exploited, using hammer and anvil tactics against them. |
