Arcenia, The Crown
In the Magnam Imperii, one stands above the others, it is the center of Pikasii civilization and one of the shining beacons of Manking throughout the galaxy, devoid of the perfid influence of the xenoi and the silicon sophont. Once a backwater system cut-off from galactic affairs, its colonisation by stranded humans centuries ago made it today one of the most crucial location in galactic affairs and the epicenter of an ever growing Imperium. It is the Throne upon which the ideals of the long lost Roman Empire continues, it is Arcenia.
Astrogeography:
Arcenia is a main sequence star located within the Pentus Sector. Outside of its surprisingly human friendly conditions, the system was pretty mundane compared to many other systems within the sector. Its close proximity to the Hades Gulf nebulae also gave it access to light elements and basic molecules necessary for life, which probably contributed to the habitability of Pikasis. Due to its historic importance, it is also the epicenter of the Magnam Imperii and the political center of the Arcenian Praefectura.
History:
Arcenia was born 6,1 billion years ago, following a similar evolution of the Terran Sun, however, the coalescence of the protoplanetary disk resulted in slightly different configuration than the Craddle of Mankind. While it is suspected that Pikasis, sole habitable world within the system, wasn't always habitable due to a longer Bombardment Era, life appeared on it roughly 500 million years ago. It is known through archeological records that evolution on this planet followed a similar pathway to Terran evolution, yet it appears that insectoids managed to become the dominant specie after the planet's primates died off roughtly 20 million years prior to Mankind's arrival.
The history of the system however would be altered forever in 3481 AUC, with the arrival of a small fleet testing out FTL technology from the Roman Empire which ruled over Fractal Sol 293. The FTL drives were not meant to go this far and, suffering critical malfunctions throughout the fleet, they were forced to land upon the surface of Pikasis. Fortunately for the roughly half a million survivors who made planetfall, the atmospheric conditions and solar cycles were similar enough to Terran standards for immediate survival. The local dominant specie however reacted in an hostile manner towards the human castaways, leading towards the first conflict of Pikasii History, the Arcenian Acquisition.
The Gapneks, which had recently came to dominate the surface of Arcenia were soon overtaken by the technologically supperior humans and were rendered extinct only a few decades after the humans arrived. From there, the human castaways decided to permanently settle the world, vying to one day return to their home, but knowing all too well they wouldn't be able to acheive it within their own lifestyles. While some technologies were now beyond the reach of the first Pikasistani, they were able to maintain a somewhat advanced level of technological development and were able to recover from those setbacks only a few centuries after they colonised the world. However, overpopulation rapidly became a problem, and setbacks in FTL development made it impossible for them to expand to new habitable world, causing a climatic crisis upon the world of Pikasis, it would nearly take a millenia for them to restore Pikasis to its natural climate, and this despite major alterations to its landscape as Imperial Authorities pushed the population to recently found worlds.
Despite the dip in population from the Exodus Era, Arcenia remains the political, cultural, historical and military capital of the Magnam Imperii and, within the last century, it has risen to be one of the most powerful human states within the entire Milky Way Galaxy.
Economy:
Arcenian economy is mostly state-driven and heavily revolves within the terciary sector. Despite this, there is also a strong secondary sector due to the presence of Anchora Docks, the primary shipbuilder of the Magnam Imperii. Trade within the sector is minimal, notably due to the low population in the system (roughly 900 million inhabitants according to the 5910 AUC census).
Notable locations:
-Pikasis: Throne World of the Magnam Imperii, Pikasis is a small Tepui World located within the habitable zone of the system. It is largely owned by the Imperial family itself and serves as the heart of Pikasii political and diplomatic life. Despite what its surface may suggest, the world is doted with various weapons emplacements concealed under the world seas and jungles, packing an additional punch to the heavy orbital defense grid which illuminates the night sky.
-Aquilus: Sole gas giant within the Arcenian star system, Aquilus is host to many imperial secret sites which are concealed within its deep atmosphere. It was also the home of the now defunct Steel Warden project and to the R&D team working on the development of the Octavia-class superdreadnought.
-Anchora Docks: Anchora Docks is the largest shipyard within the Magnam Imperii and is responsible for the construction and repairs of most of the Imperium's capital and super capital ships.
-Lapria: An ice giant which is home to many monitoring facilities, its remote location makes traffic far smaller and allows for it to serve as a pit stop for ships headed to the Oort Cloud AWAC stations.
