Cryolis, the Frozen Vault
"Above the Pikasistani world of Cryolis was one of the few gateways into the ice ball, Cemos Station. While the planet was hardly a decent colony by most standards, as its temperatures were far too frigid to allow surface living in any condition resembling comfort. While the temperature would seem ideal for manufacturing, such operations were strangely absent. So why, then, had they seen fit to build three space elevators off of it? The truth, though awful, was quite simple: the planet was a vault. Deadly biological and chemical agents were contained within the subterranean facilities below, with extensive security measures preventing their escape into the wider Imperium, and by extension, the galaxy."

Cryolis is a frozen world located in the northern-most territories of the Greater Imperium, in the Gelis system. Because of its position in the solar system and its atmospheric composition, the world is constantly frozen, with the highest temperature recorded (outside of volcanic events) being of a mere -40C.
While the world could be easily terraformed by installing orbital mirrors and installing industry on its surface, the best usage would be to just dot the world with factories since the frozen atmosphere of the world would radiate the heat back to space. However, Imperial authorities found a better use for the new colony, one that would increase the military might of the Greater Imperium, but one that would also doom the world to stay in its current state of "death" for the foreseable future. |

Indeed, the Pikasistani decided to use the world as a gigantic, concealed, vault to store the various NCBRs that are in the arsenal of the Imperium and associated research facilities. Yet, it is not the sole purpose of the world, as only using it as storage would alert the foes of the nation of it's purpose. So they decided to make use of the giant, frozen lakes of the world to start large scale aquaculture. However, because of the surface being too cold for settlement, colonization plans were designed to build subterranean cities instead, which led to a thriving mining industry. Those new cities were powered, heated and lit by massive fusion reactors, which were also used to make the lakes able to host complex life-forms, and supplemented by geothermal plants. Orbital infrastructure is relatively sparse on the planet, being comprised of three spaceports linked to the ground by Atlas Pillars named Cemos, Emeris and Octiva, the first being used by the Pikasis Classis Celestae and the two others being reserved for the few cities underground.
The administrative capital city of Faxis is the city where political affairs are conducted, but also where the most leisure and entertainment are located and thus is the only official settlement that doesn't revolve around either mining or farming. Military affairs, however, are conducted on Cemos Station, which is known to the public, but restricted under pretext of classified research facility. Whilst being an half-truth, this is mainly a cover-up for the massive vaults of NCBRs that lies under several layers of security protocols and redundancies that serves to protect the rest of the world from the dangers that could pose containment breach and to an extent, the rest of the Galaxy. |
