Anchora Docks
Anchora Docks refers both to the largest shipyard in operation, but also to one of the subsidiaries of the biggest government owned corporations within the borders of the Magnam Imperii. The shipyards of Anchora Docks are the sole location where the Octavia-class super-dreadnought can be constructed within the entire polity. Belonging to the state owned Anchora Heavy Engineering, the Arcenian shipyards have been the flagship docks for the rest of Imperial Space, with the exception of Geolia Yards. Dating back to the Arcenian Era of the Magnam Imperii, the docks hold a particular importance within the Pikasistani industrial, astropolical and cultural history of the nation.
History:
Anchora Docks was created a century and a half after the return of Pikasis in spatial activities, following the centralisation of shipbuilding activites by the Imperial Authorities in an attempt to standardize the construction of vessels and to facilitate the development of FTL technology. While the former purpose was relatively successful, reducing the overall number of incidents related to poor construction of mining vessels, the latter took a total of six decades to be succesful, resulting in what some historians call the Blind Expansion Era. Following the creation of reliable slipspace travel, Anchora Docks saw massive investments to expand its production capacity, notably for larger vessels aimed towards exploration and proper colonization of the Pentus Sector.
With the massive exodus of population from Arcenia to recently settled systems, notably the south of modern Pikasii space, the Imperial Authorities mostly focussed their attention towards the construction of other facilities within the newly acquired territories. It was then that Anchora shifted to the construction of military vessels, notably to combat a nascent problem of space piracy, but also to defend the sparsely populated colonies from various small xenoi polities which existed in the region at the time.
Despite this shift, Anchora would only show small growth for the next 150 years. Anchora Heavy Engineering however was rapidly expanding in the Hephal System, offloading from Anchora Docks the production of sub capital ships, allowing the production of larger vessels.
Another wave of expansion of Anchora Docks would be made under the reign of Empress Gloriana, which saw a massive period of expansion of the production capacity of the shipyards, it is also during this period that the iconic Chatto-class entered Pikasii service.
Trasymacus, son and successor of Gloriana also offered attention to Anchora, especially as tensions between the Magnam Imperii and the Divine Sovereignty over Ruzia escalated, consolidating the Pikasii Classis Celestae (PCC, Galactic Standard: Pikasistani Celestial Armada) with more capital and super capital vessels. It was also during this period that Anchora expanded its capacities within the Arcenian Oort Cloud to produce in secret the Octavia-class super dreadnought which would be crucial in the Aesir Wards.
Following the aftermath of the Battle of Midgar, Anchora as struggled to rebuild the battered PCC and following a deal with Olimpiada, the docks were once again massively expanded, implementing some Olimpiadan technology in order to improve efficiency.
Facilities:
The facilities of Anchora Docks are currently composed of 78 standard shipyard modules, with the addition of 17 super capital shipyard modules, one being reserved for the maintenance of Octavia-class super dreadnaughts. In addition to those facilities, four strike craft factories are also present. Furthermore, various refineries, ordinance manufacturing facilities and storage facilities have sprouted up, mostly serving to satisfy the needs of the industrial behemoth.
Over the last few years, the Imperial Authorities have drastically expanded the defensive capabilities of the facility in response to the Claudius-Gendari commission, which identified the shipyards as the "strategic jugular" of the Magnam Imperii. It now includes an approximate 24 defense platforms, alongside a PCC Task Force.
